1. Is the Affordable Care Act (ACA) still in effect?
Yes. Individuals can still get health insurance through the federal or state exchanges during a specified open enrollment period (see #2). 
 
2. When can health insurance be purchased?
Most health insurance plans must be purchased during open enrollment, which occurs 11/1/19 - 12/15/19.
 
3. Is there still a federal penalty for not having health insurance in 2019?
No. However, even though the federal requirement ended in 2019, some states have enacted their own individual mandate ( NJ, MA and CA). 
 
4. What ACA alternatives exist in 2019?
There are now several alternatives. Healthcare sharing plans and short-term medical plans can be affordable options. These alternatives are not a solution for everyone depending on health history and medications taken. A healthcare specialist can do a personal analysis and help determine your best option.
5. I have an existing ACA health plan. Can it be shopped?
