What exactly is a “Healthcare Cost Sharing Ministry” (HCSM)?
A healthcare sharing ministry is an organization that facilitates sharing of healthcare costs among individual members in the United States who have common ethical or religious beliefs. Members of healthcare sharing ministries are exempt from the individual responsibility requirements of the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare. This means members of healthcare sharing ministries are not required to have insurance as outlined in the individual mandate.
Is healthcare sharing an insurance plan?
No, it is not insurance. Health sharing may look, and act, a lot like insurance (taking in premium money and paying out claims), it is not technically health insurance.
What type of plans are offered?
You have the freedom to choose a plan that meets your needs and pocketbook. Choose from twelve different plans, each offering member sharing responsibility amounts (MSRA’s) from $1,000 to $10,000. (see links below to plans offered). MSRA's are like a deductible.
Healthcare Sharing plans are not health insurance nor are they offered through an insurance company.
